In Mexico, though the vast majority of transactions still take place in cash, a significant rise in the use of e-payments since 2008 heralds the sea change soon to come.

Even though e-payments are still at a low percentage of the country's overall economy, e-payment activity has jumped over the last 7 years, while the use of cash has fallen. And, despite a per capita income of just over $15,000 per year, about a quarter of the population have smartphones.
